I started this contest because I wanted to motivate my little brother, Isaac, to choose a healthy life style. It is his first year of middle school. Obesity is not very common in our family but at a young age, I was overweight. Unfortunately, Isaac’s adolescence has taken the same turn.
I have tried multiple times to encourage Isaac to play sports and get out of the house. I ran track and played soccer. None of these activities
appealed to Isaac, he always thought it was too much running. I had to do something to inspire him to fight his obesity.
Ever since high school, I have considered myself a healthy and “fit” person. I did a lot of cardio but I was never at the stage I wanted to be at. I always wanted to be muscular and “ripped”. I graduated high school in June 2007, went off to college in the fall and of course, I fell into the “Freshman Fifteen”.
Currently I am 20 years old and in my third year of college. And I must say, my fitness level and physique are a dream come true! Turbulence Training has changed my life. I am more confident, I have more energy throughout the day, and I have not only motivated my little brother to choose a healthier lifestyle, but my friends as well!
Going into the contest, I was a bit skeptical. Cardio did not seem to be an exercise that was given much emphasis. This completely went against everything I had been doing to stay “fit” for the last 7 years. I really wanted someone to take this journey with; I asked about 10 or so of my most athletic friends to join me. None accepted my offer. Some were saying that they had their own routine to go by, others that the “No Cardio” seemed too good to be true, and one of my friend’s even told me they were skeptical because they thought there were some strings attached.
So I went at it alone. My first week I “bulked up” by eating as many calories as I could, adding another 7 pounds. One of my friends had recommended this method, they said it would help me add size. Day 3 of my journey, you sent me the link to FITDAY.COM and I am forever grateful. As I watched my food intake for the next several days and “bulked up”, I soon found out that I was putting on the wrong kind of mass, fat.
I didn’t have to ask anyone to know that this didn’t feel right. So I continued recording everything I ate and making healthier choices. Day 4 came and it was goal-setting time. My aim was to lose as much body fat as possible and gain as much muscle mass as I possibly could.
I went to the website and found the YOUTUBE link for the workouts. The “300 Workout” and the “Fat Burning Circuit” were my most commonly used Turbulence Training exercises’. I stuck with your tips for success from Day 1, which were:
1) Consistency
2) Social support
3) Goal setting
4) And of course, the Turbulence Training Lifestyle.
Although I didn’t have the social support from my friends, I always had my little brother to motivate me. He is the one who truly inspired me to finish this contest.
On the evening that I took my before pictures, I had finished my daily 2 mile run with a light set of pushups and sit ups to tone up for my picture.
