TweScene 1 Take 4¦ Action¦ Yes indeed¦ This is my 4th attempt to go through the TT contest. And I'm glad I'm writing this essay today because it means that this time I didn't abandon. In fact my first six weeks went really well and I actually lost 15 pounds following the Turbulence training.
I've been trying for years now to take back the control of my health but had never been successful at it. I used to be sports addicted in high school. Hockey, basketball, swimming, martial arts - you name it.
But took the typical college downhill road - beer, parties, stopped EVERY sport I used to be involved in, then got a job in a cubicle for 8 hours a day, ate at the restaurant several times a week, chips and soda at night with a movie, years of subscriptions to gyms that I never used.
Totally lost control. Then a miracle happened in my life. My kids! I still took me many years to realize that I should lead by example. Kids are like sponges and they look up at their parents and imitate every moves and expressions were doing. I decided that I would not be the typical "suburb dad" with a beer belly anymore and show them the way to a healthy lifestyle by actually doing it.
A couple of years ago I stumble across Turbulence training and I followed Craig since then. I've tried many times to do the contest but I was always complicating stuff too much and found myself abandoning after a couple of weeks. I know this won't work for everybody (and some people may not agree) but for me, it was all in or nothing.
Implementing habits one by one, day by day wasn't working. I woke up one day, decided I would give another shot at the TT contest (Never ever, ever give up!) and did all I could to clean my eating habits and started training that very first day. It was very difficult the first three or four days but
cravings stopped and I started to feel better and better. After six weeks, I lost 15 pounds of fat, feel a lot better about myself and I can get a lot
more stuff done in a day that I used to.
My struggles:
Sleep: My youngest son is 8 months old and still wakes up at least 3 times every night.
Time management: A day job, a wife and three kids, a business, a house, etc¦ I hate training at 9PM on a Friday night!
My Strengths:
Keep it simple: No calorie counting, no super elaborate meal plan...Eat less (I used to eat A LOT), cut on sugar, train TT style!
Push my limits: I try to beat my previous performances every training session. 10 more seconds on the planks, 5 more minutes of intervals, etc. Doesn't matter, as long as I beat my best.
What I need to improve for the rest of the contest:
Social Support: I've had tremendous support from my girlfriend but I need to find a way to take advantage of the TT Member forum as well without it being too time consuming.
Sleep: I gotta find a way to sleep!
One more thing:
Never, Ever, Ever Quit!
