Transforming my body was my goal, but during this journey I found the real transformation couldn’t occur until I underwent a mental transformation.
As an amateur “old-school bodybuilder” I thought I HAD to spend two hours every day in the gym, even doing two workouts a day on most days. You see, all that craziness worked until about age 35after that, I found myself burned out, tired and hungry. Suddenly, I put on 25 pounds and was up to a size 14 in my clothes. I even had a hard time crossing my legs because of the extra weight. I was miserable with the way I looked and felt, but I was also miserable about the work I knew it would take to get back my lean body.
I went to a couple of different trainers and tried everything. I blamed it on the fact that I was over 35 and my body, hormones, metabolism, etc. had changed.
Enter my new trainer, Mike Whitfield, CTT, who taught me about Metabolic Resistance Training…
At first it was tough because I had to wrap my head around the fact that I could do 30-45 minutes of serious training and go home. I used the templates of Metabolic Resistance Training, Meatheads MRT and Fat Loss Switch.
Once I figured out a nutrition plan that worked for me, it didn’t take long and I was seeing results!
These days I love going to the gym! I go in and work my butt off for 30 to 45 minutes and when I leave the gym, I feel like I’ve accomplished something great. I have energy and I once again feel proud of the way I look. Men at my gym even remark how hard I’m working and they tell me they get tired just watching me! I am strong and confident and I can cross my legs again! When I leave the gym, I feel like I’m a bada$$ and I love it!
I am now down to a size 8 and have lost 22 pounds over the entire journey. I’m also lifting more weight with my leaner muscles! Just during the Turbulence Training contest I have lost over 10 pounds. But the real proof is when I’m at the gym and I’m working out and in the mirror I see lean muscle mass and a tone frame looking back at me.
I am a whole lot closer to that eventual goal of entering a contest. And more importantly, I have the tools I need to get there once I decide to compete again! It’s so nice not to have to starve and especially not to have to spend two hours in the gym every day!
