My name is Jennifer. I am originally from San Francisco, California. Five
years ago I moved to Austria with my Austrian husband and two young
children. I thought it would be an adventure. I was right about that, just
not the adventure I imagined. In those five years I was tested to my limits
and I learned a few things about myself.
I should start with my age and fitness background, seeing how this is a
transformation contest. I will be 47 next month. I always love to workout
and grew up playing sports and being active. It was a habit that I was
proud to have. I enjoyed my food and could maintain my weight fairly easily
because I was so active. Nobody gets a free ride, but if you keep moving
and don?t go overboard on treats, you can enjoy all kinds of food.
One of the things I mentioned learning in the last five years, is that you
think you know how you will respond to life?s challenges when they are
thrown at you. How many times have we offered advice starting with: If MY
kid did that, or If I had a cancer or, If I had problems in my marriage,
etc. We can all picture the perfect responses to situations especially when
it is all hypothetical.
I didn?t think anything could shake my fitness habit. When the going gets
tough the tough keep working out, right? Got stress? Exercise is the
answer. I thought I knew myself pretty well. Whatever came my way I knew I
would always have my habit of fitness and health to get me through.
In the course of those 5 years my family dealt with the loss of a child, a
move across the world to a foreign country, living in a remote village and
starting over. I found myself in a very lonely place, isolated, no friends,
and not speaking the language. I missed my home, family and friends. My
marriage was shaky at best and to top it off I developed a thyroid problem
that exhausted me to my bones. I am not writing this to make excuses, there
are plenty of really good excuses on how things go bad and how hard it is to
pick yourself up. This is just my story and hopefully it motivates others.
What happened? As much as I would like to say I kept working out though it
all, I did not. I quit, I used food to medicate and numb myself. I was
tired. I felt every minute of my age. I lost my mojo, not just for
fitness, but for life. I saw the pounds creep on, but the worst was the
total lack of desire to change it.
But, I learned something else. Don?t underestimate yourself. Time also
heals a lot. Somewhere deep inside, hidden in the grief, depression and
fear there was something that reminded me of my former self. I learned
that I am stronger than I thought and could face my life as it was. I could
start over.
I knew about Turbulence Training because I bought the program in 2008. I
thought it was brilliant and it answered my dilemma of no time, no gym for
miles, or kilometers as they say around here. I knew the workouts were
effective and fun. Yes, fun. I do like to workout. I started with the
bodyweight programs. I got more energy and the memory of fitness became
stronger.
I started to handle my food issues. It did not happen overnight and when I
started this transformation contest I had a handle on my food and was
exercising consistently. I loved seeing the TT transformation contests. I
love the stories of hope and perseverance. I got an email one day inviting
me to do the Turbulence Training transformation contest. I felt ready to
make the commitment. I still had some pounds to lose and it was the perfect
opportunity to go for it.
Here I am 12 weeks later. I did it. I reclaimed myself, my energy is
back. I have my mojo. The transformation tips I received via email every
day were so helpful and really kept me going. I shared with some friends
and my husband about the contest and they cheered me on. It has truly given
me back something I thought I lost. Thank you Craig and Turbulence
Training.
