Well where do I start? I guess having a look at the photos is not a bad place. What an amazing journey this has been.
It all started when I was in high school, I was a fairly active and loved my sport. I also loved my food. It didn’t seem to matter what I ate, I stayed fit and healthy.
This was fine until school finished and so did all the sport. The problem was the food kept coming. Within a few years I was about 44lbs heavier than I was at school.
I wish I’d taken more measurements now, but this is what I took on
Jan 1 2009:
Weight: 220lbs
Waist: 43in
Neck: 17in
Chest: 41.5in
Biceps: 14in
Thigh: 25.5in
In September 2008 my first daughter was born, and I decided that it was time to really take it seriously to lose the weight and get back into shape! It sounded like a good idea, but I didn’t really know where to start.
After a few months of some ineffective attempts, a friend of mine introduced me to Turbulence Training. I am usually really sceptical of these sorts of things but it turned out to be one of the best investments I’d ever made!
I started on the 1st of January 2009. I had never really spent any time in the gym at all, so lifting weights was a new experience for me. I started with the beginner workout and I must admit that when I started I was quite ashamed at how much I could lift. However I used this to my advantage as it gave me more motivation to work hard.
After the beginner workout I went on to the Intermediate and then into the Original Turbulence Training workout. It’s been amazing the improvement with all of my numbers.
With the weights in most cases I can do about 70-100% more weight, and I can go about 60% further on the exercise bike with my intervals. It’s really amazing to me that I’ve been able to improve that much in such a short space of time!
With the nutrition, I tried to follow most of the guides that were given in the TT manual. I wasn’t always perfect and had some weak moments with ice-cream, which didn’t help anything, but I find that after eating pretty well for 12 weeks, I’m loving it.
The amazing thing is that I’m now craving the fruit and vegetables, salads and salmon steaks instead of the pizza pasta and deep fried stuff like I used to! I love the feeling of eating well!
This 12 weeks challenge has completely changed my lifestyle and in a really good way. Here are some of the ways this has happened
1. Look at the photo. I’m not longer ashamed to take my shirt off to go for a swim or anything. Add to that people coming up to me all the time telling me how much of a difference they can see.
2. Savings. There are lots of things in this category. I’m not buying lunch out every day, I’m saving on having to buy new clothes. I have old shorts that I couldn’t fit into before now falling off me! Also gym membership. I was extremely close to paying hundreds of dollars to subscribe to a gym. With the savings I bought an exercise bike to do my intervals on.
3. I have way more energy now. Not only can I last longer when I’m running around playing sports or whatever, but I’m not as tired or lethargic now.
4. The way I eat and view food has changed.
5. My back pain has gone. I used to get a really bad ache in my lower back but from about week 4-5, I noticed that I wasn’t getting it anymore. This pain has been with me a long time and it’s amazing that it’s pretty much completely gone.
6. I’ve put on a lot of muscle. I really only expected to lose weight, and had no goals in terms of muscle gain. My % body fat has dropped dramatically, and I can feel a massive difference in the muscle in my upper body and legs especially.
There are lots of other little things day to day that you notice. I guess the last thing to do is give you the numbers and how much I lost.
Keep in mind that I did pull my hamstring quite badly half way through which made the legwork difficult, so it’s all really happened in about 10 weeks of full exercise. These were taken after 12 weeks on 25 Mar 2009:
Weight: 188lbs (-32.1lbs)
Waist: 34.5in (-8.5in)
Neck: 15in (-2in)
Chest: 38.5in (-3in)
Biceps: 14in (0in more muscle)
Thigh: 22in (-3.5in)
They say you get out what you put in. Well I think that you need the right program to put into to make that work, and I definitely think I’ve found the right one.
I’m amazed at the changes that have taken place, and even with the ice-cream and my slow weeks from injury added into the mix, I have no doubt that these numbers could have been even better. I love telling people I know about the program and how much I’ve lost using it!
I just want to say thank you to Craig for not only putting this program together, but being part of the process. I was shy in the forums, but when I did post something, it made me feel even more motivated by getting a reply from the “guy at the top!”
You’ve changed my life in a very positive way, and I thank you for that. It’s the end of the 12 weeks, but it’s just the start of my journey as a healthy, happy person. The next step is getting some chiselled abs!
